Where do I even begin? ....

Here is a debut novel with bite.... Intrigue, power struggles, betrayal, love and lust can all be found within these pages.
Ordinarily when I write a review, I like to do it almost immediately, while everything is fresh in my mind and my emotions, whatever they may be, are still raw. I don't know if it's because I read this book in a way that is unusual for me ie: We read it as part of a read-along and discussed our thoughts and feelings as we went, a few chapters at a time, or if it is because of the story itself.... Either way, I find myself needing a little time to tell you what I want you to know.

There were a number of things that were very different about this story, for me at least. Australia has a whole bunch of really wonderful authors, and yet I find that I have read surprisingly few books that are actually set here. That is not to say that authors aren't writing them, but I realised, if they are ... I don't seem to have read very many of them. For almost that reason alone, this was a bit of a treat for me. Australian author, set in Australia, in the present, with some delightful references to Australian history peppered throughout for good measure. We journey back as far as the second fleet in our own history, but further back for the purpose of deeper character development. Don't fret though, Night Walker doesn't spend very long in the past. It is very much about the here and now! These little trips will bring with them shiny insights and greater understanding of the overall plot.... So be sure to pay attention :D
I am rarely truly surprised when I read anymore. I'm usually pretty good at scenting out the path we are following and seeing the dangers before they swallow us whole. For this reason, I applaud ANY author who can shock me. I admit to having seen some of what would later come to pass, but still..... There were some exceptionally delicious twists that knocked this out of the park for me. Forget what you think you know about vampires, or Sydney for that matter... There is a very dark and disturbing underbelly hiding along the streets and within the buildings of Sydney, that I never knew existed.
Essentially this is the story of three friends, a club and a vampire.... You will be introduced to some of the myth and lore surrounding the possibility of vampires throughout history and how and why they may just be more than myth. You will meet a King, a Prince and a vile betrayer ... You will see laws broken, hearts shattered and bodies torn asunder... You will see a battle of wills and the struggle for the safety of humans living in Australia. ... You will laugh and scream... You will question the sanity of some characters, pray for a violent and bloody end to others and you will ache to your very soul for yet more.... If nothing else, this story will definitely make you feel.
I found myself so furious with one character that it was necessary for me to vent directly to the author.... Again.... This was in large part because of the way I read this book... I told Aaron that because of him "My anger is a living, breathing entity, currently throwing itself against the walls of my house in an effort to break free and KILL one of your characters." ... I may have raged just a little that night/morning. It has been quite some time since I last despised a character quite so vehemently... Mind you, I do love (to hate) a character who seems so entirely bereft of any human emotions at all. A completely self-absorbed, unthinking, uncaring sod who is only out for what they can take from others. They do seem to bring depth to the story line and a level of drama that is out in the stratosphere. There is nothing quite like the potential they bring.
There is something for everyone in this story. It really does run the gamut of all of human emotion. It flows beautifully, with a steady pace and enough activity that you will find it difficult to put down. I, for one, was often burning the midnight oil into the wee hours of the morning, and then obsessing about what I read and what might be coming next. I was constantly trying to guess what might be around the next corner, and also worrying about what I would find when I got there.
I could tell you about the interpersonal relationships between the characters and how they work. I could spin you around three times and point you in the direction of the smoothest path. I could warn you about the dangers ahead and what you need to do in order to stay safe.... But I will do none of those things. Instead, I will just tell you to take a chance and sneak quietly between the pages of this book and try not to disturb any of the monsters contained within, lest they notice you and begin to take an interest in you ...
I loved this story with a passion that I rarely feel for fictional characters. I would love to see it on the big screen, larger than life... Aaron has woven a rather intricate tale that will keep you awake BEGGING for just a little bit more. I can't wait to start book 2, Day Dreamer and word has it on the grapevine, that book three is already in the works.
Might I suggest that you invest in a crash helmet, if you don't already own one, and buckle yourselves in nice and tight? ... Because you are in for one hell of a ride with some unexpected detours that will leave you positively gasping....

This was my first experience with the writing of Aaron L. Speer. It absolutely will NOT be my last.... I don't recommend this book for those who are squeamish, as there is some fairly graphic violence.

Night Walker Undeadly Secrets Volume 1 Aaron L Speer 9781493567768 Books Reviews

This was one of the best Vampire books I have read in a long time. It has Graphic sex, violence, and a hot vampire. What more can you ask for.
Holy Hell I couldn't stop reading this book. I loved everything about it.
The Story
This book is set in Australia, we learn a bit about Australian history before we get into the story. We meet Alex, her best friend Lauren, and Alex's boyfriend Matt. Alex has had a rough life, her dad died when she was 2, and her mom lost her mind. So Alex was raised by her aunt. Now Alex is a school teacher, and lives with her best friend Lauren. Alex wants the dream, White picket fence, Babies and to be loved. That all soon changes. One night the 3 go to a Club. Club T is ran by Dante. Lauren is obsessed with getting Dante into bed. But he seems to only pay attention to Alex. Which pisses off her boyfriend and best friend. Lauren meets/hooks up with Ryan. A rich surfer boy, she meet at the club. After this things will never be the same. Secrets are reveled and Alex's life is turned up side down. All Hell breaks loose and choices are made that affect everyone. Soon the Paranormal world comes crashing down on Alex and everyone she knows. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll stop right there. But big twists and turns keep me wondering what was going to happen next.
The Characters are interesting to say the least. But I was sucked into their lives, I cared what happened. At points I was yelling at the book.
This book was so awesome that I am buying the second book now so I can keep reading about them. Great Job Aaron. I love this book.
Move over Rice and Meyer because Speer is setting up to not just shake the streets of Sydney but the whole hierarchy of the Vampire Genre. There are two new names in your world Speer and Dante and they make a Kicka** team. Speer has intertwined history, modern day politics and fiction together so well, he left this conspiracy theorist wondering Is Dante real? If so, where is he? Can I find him? Can he find me, please...even just in my dreams? This journey is going to give it all to you and leave you begging for more. You are going to lust and love, obsess and hate, fear and hope. Plot twists abound and are going to have you questioning your ability to judge what is real, right along with the characters. And along the way, there is Dante, who made this all about the eyes girl...turn into a fang girl, darn those lips and fangs. Speer is setting himself up to join the greats that keep me one-clicking on sight....1. It is a fast paced read with a great plot that kept me up all night to finish it in one sitting and left me with a doozy of a book hangover. 2. He emotionally connected me to the character's, whether I was hurting and getting butterflies for the ones I loved or yelling at and threatening bodily violence upon the ones I hated. And in the end all this booklover can say is job well done, Mr. Speer, well done indeed!
