First off, our son isn't exactly a book worm. Tends to be more of a high stimulation/entertainment/activity kind of guy but now I catch him staying up after bedtime just to read in bed. Sometimes, gasp, he'll even be reading on a Saturday morning INSTEAD of watching cartoons. You have to LOVE any book that can suck a 12 year old boys away from TV and apps.and this, apparently, is the series to do it.He liked the first round of 39 Clues books but the Cahills vs. Vespers series has him completely engrossed!

The 39 Clues Cahills vs Vespers Book 1 The Medusa Plot Library Edition Gordon Korman Scholastic MultiPlatform 9780545324090 Books Reviews
It was so cute..and the words that were used were just exactly what the kids this age use...my son stayed interested at every minute, although, getting started was taking getting used to with the different characters speaking...for instance Enter ....?.... So, once you got used to that kind of thing it was fine. The ending was surprising. Won't spoil it for others....it was a cute read!
This is a very entertaining book, especially for upper elementary and middle school students.
Great book for middle schoolers
My son loves this series. I recommend it for tweens.
Apparently, this book is based on characters from an earlier series of books (The 39 Clues). Unfortunately, this chapter sample (remember it is not a book, although it has a starting "story"), like most follow up books is probably best enjoyed if you have already read the earlier books. The problem is that the end if you read this "sneak peak" it includes a summary of the entire first series!!!! What a SPOILER!! If you plan to read the first book, start there... DO NOT READ THIS BOOK YET!!!

Also, if you do start with this book you may find yourself missing critical information. For instance, the book begins by kidnapping seven individual people. "All seven were members of the Cahill clan, the most powerful family in human history." Which means, that the people who read the first book are probably way hooked by now and I am left wondering who they are and why I care.
On the other hand introduction is well written, exciting, fast paced and probably interesting if you already care about the characters. For me, it was a bit abrupt, but since I was previewing it for my kids, no problem. It just means that before I get my kids involved in this book, I will have to get them started on the original series.
arrived quick and perfect, fun book that plays on the old classics
This book was great when I listened to it on tape. I enjoyed it so much that I began reading it aloud to my 5th grade class. That was a mistake. The book is in 5 or so different points of view and it's difficult to read this aloud, unless several people are reading the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend anyone to read it, but if you do it as a read-aloud make sure to have the kids listen to it as a book on tape/cd or with several different experienced readers. Also be aware that the word "jackass" makes an appearance in the book several times, and that tends to cause a lot of snickering in class.
